Imagine Alloa street improvements to start PDF Print E-mail

The first stage of Imagine Alloa street improvements will begin from 12 October 2009. The first two streets to be tackled, Primrose Street and Drysdale Street, will see some temporary disruption while improved pavements, signage, lighting and shop fronts are put in place, with Shillinghill and High Street quickly following on .

The work is funded from £2 million awarded to Clackmannanshire Alliance by the Scottish Government for permanent town centre improvements. The funding must be spent on capital works and used by April 2010.

Work on all four streets will last from October to mid March. There will still be access to businesses during the enhancement programme and the roads will not be closed, except possibly for short periods at weekends. Work will be carried out in two phases to accommodate parking and keep the road open.

The Council has consulted local disability groups and will be keeping them and town centre businesses informed of the works with updates on www.ClacksWeb.org.uk, in a newsletter and in local press. Local Diability Group member Lynne Pickles said, "This is very promising, meeting together like this, when quite often we tend to get forgotten about. The fact that we are getting involved is great."

Clackmannanshire Alliance Chair Janet Cadenhead said, "It's fantastic that these permanent improvements will be underway so soon and I can't wait to see the results. Primrose Street will be a stunning gateway to the town for visitors arriving at the station and the arts and cultural aspect of Imagine Alloa will be incorporated in creative new shop fronts. Drysdale Street will be enhanced with a new public artwork exploring the area's glasswork heritage."
